Treatment For Acne in Adults

Adult acne is not an uncommon problem and it hits adult women more than adult men. The causes for adult acne may be different from teen acne and more serious. Though some causes remain the same, adults who suffer from acne should consult their doctors because there may be some other problem in them. In many cases it is the result of blackheads, stress, cosmetic products, hormones or birth control pills. The most common cause for women adult acne is related to hormones. The food habits can also be the cause of adult acne. Rosacea is often referred to as adult acne. It is the skin problem which makes a person looks as if he/she is blushing. This is caused due to the enlargement of the tiny blood tissues in the face. This problem is more serious than the actual acne. It is therefore important to differentiate between the two and find out the problem you are dealing with.

There are treatments available for adult acne just as there are for teen acne. But adults should always consult their doctors before using any medicine or trying any treatment because the cause may be deeper than the teens'. Here are some adult acne treatments:

• Squeezing the pimples is a fast method of ending the problem but doing it at home on your own can only worse the situation. It may lead to infection and scarring and even spread the acne. Doctors can also squeeze out the acne using sterile instruments and in their method, it doesn't leave any scar and there are very little chances of infection and spreading of the acne.
• There are many products available in the market. The main aim is to keep skin clean and protect it from bacteria. The acne products that you get should match your skin type and your adult skin. Some products may be too mild for the skin. Proper attention should be given to the quality and company that produces the items. It is also a must to read the directions properly and use them as suggested.
• Topical medications are those meant for application on the skin and acne. These medicines include azelaic acid cream, benzoyl peroxide, antibiotics, alpha-hydroxy acids, etc. these are medicines with chemicals active against clearing acne. This is the best treatment for adult acne.
• Oral medications are those medicines which you have to take orally. These medicines act as supplementary and keep the hormones in balance. They may include antibiotic pills, spironolactone, and birth control pills for women.
• To treat persistent acne the doctor may inject corticosteroid into the lesion.
• Oral isotretinoin may also be prescribed by the dermatologist in case the ace is severe. This medicine is very active especially for adults.
• An adult may also opt for physical treatments like chemical peel and adult acne surgeries like laser therapy, photodynamic, etc

Acne in Teenagers and Adults - How to Relieve Symptoms

It is widely believed that 80% of teenagers will suffer from acne during their teenage years. Acne is a skin condition in which unsightly red spots appear on your skin. The primary cause of acne is an over stimulation of the sebaceous glands in the skin producing an oily substance known as sebum. This leads to the blocking of pores making the skin prone to developing spots.

Teenage acne is connected with an increase in the levels of the male hormone testosterone as puberty is attained. The occurrence of developing spots is not connected to the levels of testosterone moreover it is dependent upon the sensitivity of the skin to the hormone. The testosterone which stimulates the glands thereby producing sebum results in the blocking of pores and causing the resultant spots. Not only experienced in teenagers, acne also affects adults but happily most men grow out of experiencing acne by their late teens or early 20s although it has been known to continue until up to age 40.

An adult form of acne has been categorised which is called acne rosacea which affects predominantly women between the ages of 30 and 50 although it can affect men also. In either sexes the condition tends to follow a family trait and acne rosacea develops itself as red skin with broken veins and acne spots on the forehead and nose and cheeks.

There are innumerable products all claiming to help clear your skin of acne and one of the most effective creams to use contains the ingredient benzoyl peroxide. This effective cream is available in various different strengths therefore it is always best to try the weakest strength and working your way up to the more advanced strength should your symptoms persist. Given ordinary soap can alter the pH of the skin this can sometimes lead to sufferers making the condition worse. The use of an anti septic face wash can help to control the greasy skin and alleviate acne symptoms.

If your acne symptoms persist then consult your doctor or medical practitioner as there are many prescribed medications that can be taken to help reduce the symptoms.
